The Chicken Soup Cure

I woke up with the dreaded sore throat, ear ache and body aches. The congestion is starting to set in with the night air. I am looking through the cabinets to see if I can find any Nyquil, Dayquil…anything.

What I do know is I have all the ingredients for chicken soup! Yes I’m cheating, it is a soup mix but real chicken breast to boil down and let the soup steep. Just stirring the soup and breathing in the steam seems to help. Chicken soup and a call to mom, why is it you still want your mom when you are 50 something and have a cold?

Well there is lots of research to support that chicken soup is the perfect thing to fight off a virus. Besides the obvious fact that chicken soup will help hydrate you and breathing in warm steam soothes irritated airways, doctors believe chicken soup has some anti-inflammatory properties that help relieve the nagging cold symptoms.

  • Add a little garlic and you have antibacterial and antiviral boosts.
  • Add a little thyme to reduce your cough and congestion.
  • Add a little sage to boost immunity!
  • Add a little ginger it will help with the aches and pains!

Chicken soup, the perfect comfort on this snowy eve.

I’m gonna crawl under my electric blanket and call my mom!

Excellent. Real chicken soup (not something from a can) is the best for combatting an illness. Also this should be eaten often as soup really boosts your immunity.
